what is automation?
Automation is simply combining the strengths of the individual applications to meet a need. For example, you can create a customer service application that stores information in Access, uses Word to house multiple letter templates and Excel to calculate rates/premiums based upon market parameters. Menus can be built to guide users through the process.
what is VBA?
VBA stands for Visual Basic for Applications. It is an object oriented programming language attached to Microsoft Office products. It can be used to drive the various programs and allows for using multiple programs together in one application (see Automation).
Which Programs can use VBA?
Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Project. Each program has it's own unique object model but each of the programs can be called from any of the other programs.
What's the difference between VBA and Macros?
Macros are steps that are recorded and then played back. They are automatically written by the host program in VBA.
